RSS feeds - they really work great
I have been going crazy using RSS feeds lately.
I started out thinking that it might be a way to get some traffic, so I set up a page a MyYahoo.com so I could add some RSS feeds to it. What happened was really surprising, I really like the way MyYahoo works. It shows me:
All of this and I get no junk mail. It is awesome.
One of the things I do now is sign up for mailing lists with a hotmail account like
SpamTheCrapOutOfMeIDon’tCare@hotmail.com
Then I check it a couple weeks later, there will be the usual 300 junk emails, but then there will be a couple from the newsletters I signed up for, I read those and if they are any good then I sign up for their RSS feed and add them to my page.
So I get about 50 useful things that I want to see on one page with no junk to weed through.
Not only that but many times marketers will send you an email that says something like:
“HOT SEX like you have never seen”
That got my attention when it landed in my inbox, so I opened that one up, it was a junk mail from a University wanting me to sign up for some college classes. That was a shock, I am used to the porno sites that send out junk mail pretending to be famous schools but I never thought a school would spam me pretending to be a sex site.
Anyway, when you use a RSS feed for some reason everyone seems to title their articles with actual titles, not something misleading to try and trick you into reading it.
I am still surprised how useful it is and how much I use it, if you don’t want to hassle setting up a RSS reader then go to MyYahoo and just use their page, it really works great.
