Sony BMG MP3s Are Hacker Friendly

Sony BMG offers MP3 files and disks for unsafe CDs

Sony BMG decided to be really tricky and try and install a program on your computer that would give them access to run a few things.

The idea was that they could prevent you from copying any of their music mp3 files.

What it actually did was give anyone who wanted access to your computer.

Sony said they were sorry and they were going to stop making these CDs with the hacker friendly software.

The copy protection software has become a real problem for Sony BMG and angry consumers filed a class action lawsuit against them.

Microsoft said it regarded the copy-protection software as malware and would make a tool available to uninstall the programme. Sony BMG also said it will make a new uninstall tool available, after the first uninstall method proved unsecure.

The part that gets me about their news release is when they say:

  • Sony BMG has re-emphasised that copy-protection software is "an important tool to protect our intellectual property rights and those of our artists."
To me this sounds like they are saying they are sorry they got caught, and they plan to keep trying to sneak stuff on your computer but in the future they plan to not get caught like they did this time.

You would think they would just keep this to themselves not out and out tell you they were going to keep trying stuff like this.
